Testimonial - North Carolina State University

If you have ever thought of joining a professional organization and you work in the field of University Surplus you need to look no further than University Surplus Property Association for membership.

Walter Outlaw my Receiving Manager and I Bill Carlson the NCSU Surplus Manager have recently returned from the 2015 USPA (University Surplus Property Association) conference held this year (2015) at Temple University.  This is the second USPA conference I have attended.  The information that was presented to us is invaluable.  I stated last year after the conference “The value ratio for what I learned and continue to learn through the USPA members is so much greater than the cost of membership, seminar, and travel expenses.”  I stand by that statement.  Here are a few highlights after attending the first conference.  Our surplus sales have increased 27% while our customer base went down 15%.  That means the average spend per customer went up.  To put additional context to this we only hold two, three hours sales per month average customer spend of $100.00.

In addition the NCSU Surplus team achieved a reduction in C&D Waste by 52% fiscal year 12-13 to fiscal year 13-14.  I attribute this to more re-purposing, selling, and or recycling materials.

Does your Surplus Operation need a shot in the arm, some inspiration, or do you have some great news you want to share?  USPA is the place to accomplish both.

The very reason to become a member of the USPA is so important is to assist you, your team, and your University/College in becoming an ideal efficient Eco-friendly service organization.  Plus the exchange of great ideas amongst your peers.

Here are just a couple of successes to stimulate your appetite:

USPA Member Jonathon Latko from Temple University.  He has if not the best, one of the best Computer Recycling Centers in all of the University Surplus system.  To learn more please see http://sustainability.temple.edu/greenstars/jonathan-latko

Innovations like the “Leave it Behind Campaign’ at Colorado State that USPA Member Jake Drenth chaired in 2012.  The overall success of this campaign can be attributed to the passion that Jake has for redirecting what would have previously gone to the landfill and turning it around for reuse.  To read more see http://today-archive.colostate.edu/story.aspx?id=7671

Big or small limited or unlimited as to what, how, and where you can sell your surplus the USPA has something for everyone.  With this team of friendly ready to assist members you will get years of productive experience.  Willing to help when you ask for their assistance ready to listen when you have something to share.

I would encourage anyone who works in the University Surplus Field to join.  It will be the best money invested for you and your organization.  Bill Carlson, Surplus/Warehouse M
